Origins of Escorting

First of all you should know that in ancient Greece, there was a social stratification between women. One could differentiate three classes of women: a citizen, a freedwoman, and a slave.
Citizen women were females that obtained their citizenship at birth by being born from parents who were also citizens. They were reputable and polite, and they had to follow social codes.
Freedwomen were slaves who had come from other countries and had established their freedom in Greece. These women were often sold into slavery upon their arrival in Greece, and toiled for years as slaves to earn enough money buy their freedom from their masters.
Slaves were females and males from occupied territories or were children of slaves. After the conquering of a terroritory, people from said territory were often brought back to Greece as the spoils of war, and sold into slavery.
Early escorts in Athens consisted of freedwomen and slaves, as well as citizens. Even in ancient times, there were low class and elite escorts.
The low class escorts were very popular. Country girls who frequented the roads, street walkers, bar maids or kept mistresses- they all had clients.
But the most important ones were the elite escorts.
They were stylish and clever ladies. High class female escorts were educated; they participated in social or private parties. Such escort could sing, was wealthy, well-educated, and pleasant companion. Often these women were citizens of noble birth, cousins or sisters to influential and powerful men, who used their charms and their pedigree to influence the politics of the day withough engaging directly in the political system itself.
In ancient times there were different types of escorts.
Some were coming from respectable families. They were friendly, professional and attractive and they offered discreet companionship only to high class gentlemen. Others presented themselves nude in brothels, while some escorts were mainly attending social gatherings, business deals, private parties, or even went for tours out of the country.
The noble escorts were a perfect blend of luxury and sensuality. They often did not charge money for their services, but instead recieved lavish gifts, housing, power and influence from their associations with the men they entertained.
There are main instincts in a human being: the sexual desire and the will to live. At this point an escort is the mixture that forms the oldest profession humanity knows.
